Being Shouldless on Mother’s Day
Most of my Mother’s Day shopping was done. I had one more purchase I wanted to make. I planned to buy mom her favorite outdoor potted plants: red Zonal geraniums. Then other things got in the way. A recent storm caused a maple tree to fall onto our property. A kind neighbor with a chainsaw volunteered to help us clear the tree on Saturday, my last-minute shopping day. Hubs was working, and it was important to me that one of us be at home to help this saintly neighbor. Six hours later, I was beat and the last thing on my mind was plant procurement.
Gifts are less important to my mom than being surrounded by family, so I knew she would be very happy with the gifts I’d already purchased. But I enjoy buying and planting flowers for her.
My solution? The I.O.U. I printed up a little flyer letting her know that geraniums were on the way. The I.O.U. took stress off me by eliminating a “should” and allowing me to live life on life’s terms.
Now mom has something to look forward to, and so do I!
