How I Plan for a Staycation

Has this ever happened to you? You really need a vacation. You think of all the things you want to do when you can get a few days off. Months later, when you actually take some time off, you can’t for the life of you figure out what you want to do.

That’s happened to me when I’ve taken staycations. I’ve found myself pining for some time off, only to not know what to do with myself when the time comes.

This year I’ve not been great at managing my PTO time. I’ve taken a day here and a day there, but no extended time away from work. In a few weeks I’m taking a real staycation. It will begin on a Thursday and go through the following week. Nine consecutive days of not working!

I. Can’t. Wait.

I’ve been thinking about things I want to do while I’m off. Not in a “I have to be productive” way, though. I am considering things that I find restorative, restful, and fun.

I decided to put together a Staycation Ideas Menu. The Staycation Menu differs from a task list because the goal is not to accomplish anything. Each morning after my workout, I’ll look at my menu and decide what I want to do that day. I might repeat some activities and never “order” others.

I invite you to comment and share your methods of planning a great staycation, and feel free to steal my idea!
