A Word to My Fellow Introverts
Yesterday when I got home from church, I realized I was feeling irritable and overwhelmed. I haven’t had as much alone time as I’d like, I knew this week was going to be packed with lots of meetings and other “peopling” activities. I had an afternoon Zoom call scheduled with a study group, and even that felt like too much. I just wanted to be alone.
I decided to blow off the Zoom call, and instead, I pulled weeds for three hours. Pulling weeds always guarantees me time alone because I have never had anyone tell me, “I simply must help you weed your flower beds.” Those three hours were restorative, and I am in a much better mental place today.
My invitation to my fellow introverts is to notice when you have reached your social limits. Create a plan to unplug, even if you have to schedule it for later or in between your responsibilities. You’ll thank yourself.
